SUSTAINABILITY, START HERE

UNSDGs

So much much more than recycling, energy and carbon:

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals tackle ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring global prosperity: it’s huge. 17 goals, all connected and they affect everyone.

The goals are set out in a very clear graphic, with links to find out more on each goal including resources and how to take action; everyone should know about this.

All too easy to think that climate science is someone else’s department, that change is too difficult and costly or simply that this is not for me; but the goals show exactly how looking after the planet is not only relevant for everyone but also empowering with global human rights and equity in distribution and use of precious resources at the heart of the programme.

As I update this Cop29 has just got started in Baku, awash with allegations of fossil-fuel lobbying before it even opened, and suffering a degree of no-show from world leaders either because it doesn’t suit their agenda or as a protest at endless chat with no follow-through. Still, it will be an opportunity for the UNSDG’s to get a mention and hopefully a few more people will investigate.
