PAULA REGO PILGRIMAGE
Paula Rego pilgrimage
Escaping London for Christmas I had in mind a pilgrimage to Casa das Histórias and came across a bonus exhibition at Fundação de Serralves: Paula Rego – The Cry of Imagination.
Prints, giant pastels and works on paper spanning her career and a beautiful summary of Rego’s storytelling, influences and mastery of different media. Including the Nick Willing film Secrets & Stories, with Paula Rego unwaveringly frank and revealing about her life & work.
For anyone not wild about the commercial frenzy of Christmas in the UK and the bizarre pressure to conform to Victorian traditions, I recommend visiting Europe. In Porto shops are festive without tinsel, bars and cafes open and busy, no special menus, and people walk the dog, have a drink on the quay, pop into the launderette or do whatever else they fancy. My idea of a holiday.
