LOTS OF LIGHT ZERO WASTE

Lots of light, zero waste
Cardboard tube lamp

One of several things I came across at a recent visit to Sustainable Ventures, designed by Material Works and helpfully referenced on their project page, is a simple LED tube light which uses its packaging as the fitting itself.

In the words of Amsterdam studio HeijltjesAkkaya cardboard tubing is a strangely underrated material. Soft to the touch yet structurally strong. Distinct and outspoken, yet neutral in tone and form. R16 was designed as an homage to this beautiful and versatile material.

Such a neat idea: speaks for itself, does the job, is quiet enough to fit in anywhere and when you do notice it, it makes you smile. Lots of interesting products and ideas on their site at various stages between concept and production.
