Sandeman House just behind the Bank of England is a Grade II* listed property with a distinctive character and until recently housing port in its brick vaults.
Working with Native Places as operator and client CBRE the brief combined aesthetic, commercial and practical requirements: re-plan this stately townhouse to make five private apartments each with distinct identity, and upgraded services and amenities throughout, retaining architectural detail while sympathetically integrating everything necessary for a convenient city stay.
Comprehensively renovated the new suites have generous living and dining space, rationalised bathrooms and kitchens and quiet bedrooms. New rich materials add to the fully restored fabric and a final layer of furniture, textiles and original art give a relaxed finish to a building that works like a hotel but feels like home.
One of a series of projects with Native Places to update their portfolio of existing properties and develop new, with longevity, ease of maintenance and future modification guiding the design. Also one of several projects with furniture supplied by Dodds & Shute, industry experts in responsible sourcing.
